British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing a mounting effort to force him out of office amid a number of serious scandals. In fact, several of his top ministers have resigned and/or urged him to step down in recent days.

In addition to backlash over his parties during the COVID-19 lockdowns, Johnson is under fire for the way he has handled allegations that his former Deputy Chief Whip Chris Pincher inappropriately touched two men. In response, his health secretary and finance minister turned in their resignations and many other top officials have put pressure on the prime minister to quit.

Nevertheless, Johnson remains defiant and even fired Senior Cabinet Minister Michael Gove on Wednesday. Gove had reportedly been leading the chorus of critics calling on Johnson to resign.

Exiting Health Secretary Sajid Javid kicked off the string of resignations with a tough assessment of the prime minister. He explained: “At some point, we have to conclude that enough is enough. I have concluded that the problem starts at the top. That is not going to change.”

Top spokesperson James Duddridge insisted that Johnson remains in “really good spirits” despite the circumstances and is determined to keep “fighting on because he believes he can win.”
