The actors’ strike might mean a dearth of traditional content in cinemas, but that hasn’t stopped one unconventional Hollywood blockbuster. That’s right, Taylor Swift is now a bonafide movie star since the film version of her successful Eras tour hit theaters earlier this year.

Music, sports and movies — oh my!

Even if you’re not a self-described Swiftie, you’d have to be living under a rock to miss the impact she’s had on the music industry for well over a decade. About a year ago, her “Midnights” album earned her the almost unbelievable distinction of becoming the first artist in history to claim all 10 of the top spots on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart simultaneously.

Since then, her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has created a crop of new NFL fans. When Swift appears at a game, cameras frequently pan over to her luxury box as announcers take a break from the action on the field to provide some color commentary about the biggest pop star on the planet.

And now that the film version of her record-breaking tour is breaking records of its own, there’s no doubt that she’s got Hollywood firmly in her grip, too.

“Eras” by the numbers

Not to take anything away from Justin Beiber, but his concert film (which previously held the genre’s record for biggest opening weekend) pales in comparison to Swift’s foray.

  • It raked in $92.8 million in North American box office earnings in its first weekend.
  • It’s already achieved the status of second-biggest October film release ever.
  • Tickets to the movie as well as related merchandise remain in short supply.

Her music clearly resonates with millions of fans, and her obvious affection toward those who support her might mean she’ll only get more popular from here.
